ATTIVITA’ DIDATTICA 2018\/2019<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n

Lontano dall\u2019adesione passiva a correnti artistiche a lui contemporanee, quali il liberty <\/em>o il futurismo<\/em>,\u00a0Pietro Parigi\u00a0(1892-1990)<\/strong>\u00a0elabora un linguaggio originale partendo dai grandi maestri della tradizione come Giotto<\/em>, i\u00a0giotteschi<\/em>, Cimabue<\/em>. Anche per questo, a Firenze, i Francescani della Basilica di Santa Croce istituivano\u00a0 un museo a lui dedicato, al termine di una lunga, e proficua, attivit\u00e0 del Maestro come illustratore per non poche prestigiose case editrici e istituti culturali.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fino a ottobre 2019 – da luned\u00ec a venerd\u00ec – con la mostra \u00abIl \u2018brigante\u2019 Fra Diavolo: dialogo con Pietro Parigi in Santa Croce\u00bb,<\/em>\u00a0allestita\u00a0nella Biblioteca di Santa Croce,\u00a0<\/em>sala di lettura, ambiente attrezzato a ospitarla (sono messi in mostra anche documenti e fotografie dell’epoca), \u00e8 possibile approfondire la conoscenza di un ciclo di illustrazioni realizzate dal Maestro per il romanzo storico \u00abFra Diavolo\u00bb<\/em>\u00a0 (Vallecchi, 1932). <\/span><\/p>\n

Il \u00abfallimento dell\u2019istinto non sublimato dalla Grazia\u00bb<\/em>, cos\u00ec l’autore del romanzo, Piero Bargellini, vede il personaggio che lo spinge a mantenere nelle pagine un alto tono di piet\u00e0. Nasce cos\u00ec l’idea di far \u00a0\u2018dialogare\u2019 ventidue nuove xilografie, realizzate dagli studenti dell’IIS Alberti-Dante di Firenze, per il romanzo, con quelle del maestro Parigi gi\u00e0 tirate dai legni originali ed esposte per l\u2019occasione. <\/span><\/p>\n

La mostra espone anche alcune lettere autografe del Maestro Parigi,\u00a0 documenti e fotografie d\u2019epoca che rimandano al romanzo, alle sue belle illustrazioni (realizzate, di proposito, con uno stile \u201cscheggiato\u201d), all\u2019ambito culturale generato dall\u2019elaborazione della figura del \u2018brigante\u2019 pi\u00f9 famoso della storia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Un\u00a0vademecum<\/em> consente di recarsi presso il sottostante ‘Museo Pietro Parigi’<\/em>\u00a0 (area “Chiostrino antico”) per scoprire quanto esposto sull’opera, come le matrici di legno incise dall’artista, utilizzate per illustrare il romanzo, gli strumenti di lavoro impiegati.<\/em><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Far from passive adherence to contemporary artistic currents, such as Liberty<\/em>\u00a0style <\/em>(Art nouveau)\u00a0or Futurism,<\/em> Pietro Parigi\u00a0 (1892-1990)<\/strong>, an engraving artist and book illustrator,\u00a0elaborates an original ‘language’, starting from great masters of tradition like Giotto<\/em>, Cimabue<\/em>. The exhibition (woodcuts prints) concerns a novel illustrated by Pietro Parigi: it is an \u201c<\/em>historical novel\u201d entitled \u00abFra Diavolo\u00bb. The author\u00a0 is Piero Bargellini (Pier Francesco Bargellini), italian writer and politician, born in Florence in 1897 and here died in 1980. With his writings he made known Florentine art and culture in the world. He wanted to promote the relationship between faith and culture and he became famous with his first books works \u00abFra Diavolo\u00bb<\/em> (1932) and \u00abSan Bernardino da Siena\u00bb<\/em> (1933).<\/span><\/p>\n

The novel “Fra Diavolo” tells the true story of an italian ‘brigand’ called \u2018Fra Diavolo\u2019 (when he was a child his mother had dressed him in a friar’s habit). Actually he was a patriot: he decided to defend king Ferdinand IV, of the house of Bourbon (Kingdom of Naples),<\/em> from Napoleon,\u00a0however he was hanged as a common criminal. Even his enemies admired him for his skill! For Bargellini these italian ‘brigands’\u00a0often were\u00a0very religious, but they also were\u00a0impulsive: even though they were generous, they had no Charity.<\/span><\/p>\n

‘Fra’ Diavolo\u00a0inspired the op\u00e9ra-comique<\/em> \u00abFra Diavolo, ou de L\u2019H\u00f4tellerie de Terracine\u00bb by Daniel Auber (1830), and \u00abThe Devil’s Brother\u00bb, a comedy film with Laurel & Hardy (1933), directed by Hal Roach, and with Dennis King as Fra Diavolo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hung on the walls you can see Parigi’s woodcuts prints (about the novel), next to illustrations made by\u00a0 today\u2019s students for the same book (artistic high school \u201cAlberti-Dante\u201d in Florence<\/strong>). Pietro Parigi\u00a0and Piero Bargellini had work relationships, but they also were\u00a0friends and some letters, and photos, prove it. In one letter Pietro Parigi\u00a0explains to his friend Bargellini why he choose to represent a sad woman: actually he had seen her carrying her son\u2019s coffin on her head, in Naples, in the early 20th century.<\/span><\/p>\n

A vademecum <\/em>allows you to go to “Pietro Parigi Museum”, inside Santa Croce, to see wood matrices engraved by the artist and\u00a0 used to illustrate the novel,\u00a0 artist’s work tools.<\/span><\/p>\n
